Court Appearance

Appearing in Court

Only certain violations may be disposed of without your personal appearance in court. Carefully read the summons and instruction sheet accompanying it to determine whether you are allowed to dispose of your case without personal court appearance and call the court office if you have any questions. You must appear in court if you are involved in an accident, and you must appear in court if directed to do so by a police officer or by court personnel.

If you must (or choose to) appear in court, be aware of the following:

  • The Rolla Municipal Court is in session on Tuesday evenings at 5:30 p.m. and one Thursday day court a month at 9:30 a.m.
  • All court sessions are held at Rolla City Hall (901 North Elm), in the Council Chambers.
  • Your appearance date will be stated on your citation or summons. If you have any questions about your court date, call the Municipal Court office at (573) 364-8590 or (573) 364-7190.
  • The City Prosecutor will be prosecuting your case. The current City Prosecutor is Katie Fox, and she can be reached at prosecutor@rollacity.gov
  • Failure to appear on your scheduled court date MAY lead to the issuance of a warrant for your arrest. If a warrant is issued; you will need to post bond at a local law enforcement agency. Once bond is posted, a court date will be given to you, this is a mandatory court appearance date.

Paying a ticket without appearing in Court

Note that not all offenses/summonses require a personal court appearance. Most traffic offenses can be disposed of without appearing in court, by pleading guilty and paying a fine and costs. See here for details on pleading guilty without going to court.

Note: If you are involved in an accident, you MUST appear in court. No other means of resolution is allowed.
